What Actually Goes Into A Marketing Strategy? – Values & Mission Statement

Welcome to part 3 of our series on marketing strategy basics, all about your business values & the mission statement behind your work. If you’ve not yet read parts 1 & 2 then follow the links.

Your business values & mission statement are the heart of your company. The soul behind the work. People have to find a way to choose between the many products & services out there. They do that based on feeling. Their feelings are established through your values & mission.

Values

Your business values are the emotional & ethical pillars that hold up your business. They are the way you present yourself to the world, the way you go about helping your clients, & a huge selling point that can set you apart from your competitors. It’s not just about what you sell, but how.

You might offer a programme to help parents through the teenage stage or a course for how to get started with puppy training. You’re not the only one. Plenty of people sell what you do – exactly what you do, the difference behind the offer is you & your values.

Consider your personality & who you are. Allow it to guide you to the right values for yourself & your work.

Mission Statement

So what is a mission statement? Put simply it’s a short statement that explains who the company is, what they do, why they do it, who it’s customers are & how they’re going to help them. It’s the perfect way to introduce someone to your business to give them a real feel for the passion & care in your work.

Make a list answering all of the parts mentioned in the above paragraph, giving as much detail as possible, before condensing it all down into a short paragraph.

Refer to your values & mission statement in your marketing to allow your audience to get to know you & build up their trust.
